Woolworths Gem Avo Campaign
Five avocados. Five days. Five very Tayla Made recipes.
My first-ever brand campaign was with Woolworths, and looking back, it became one of those defining moments for Tayla Made Food.
The brief was simple: Woolworths sent me five Gem Avocados and challenged me to create one meal a day using them.
As someone who genuinely loves avocado, the product was already a natural fit. But I also knew I didn’t want to create five predictable avocado recipes just for the sake of ticking a box. No plain avo toast. No recipes that felt like they could belong to anyone.
Even in those early days, I wanted the food I created to feel distinctly like me — visually considered, a little unexpected, full of flavour and, most importantly, something I would actually want to eat.
So I started thinking beyond avocado as a topping and looked at all the different roles it could play: creamy, fresh, savoury, indulgent and even sweet.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
The challenge became less about “What can I put avocado on?” and more about “How many different ways can I make avocado interesting?”
Each dish needed its own personality.
I wanted colour, texture and contrast. I wanted recipes that felt special enough to stop someone mid-scroll, while still being approachable enough to recreate at home.
And over five days, one little box of Gem Avocados became five completely different dishes.
DAY ONE
Tuna & Avo Mini Sliders
I started with something playful.
Instead of using traditional burger patties, I turned tuna into small savoury patties and built mini sliders with Woolworths Rainbow Slaw and creamy Gem Avocado.
They were colourful, fresh and slightly unexpected — exactly the kind of food I loved creating.
It was also an early example of something that would become central to Tayla Made Food: taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a way that feels new.
DAY TWO
Prawn & Avocado Salad
For the second dish, I wanted something lighter and more refined.
Prawns and avocado became the base of the salad, paired with a bright basil and grapefruit vinaigrette.
The richness of the avocado and prawns worked against the sharp citrus beautifully, while the basil brought everything together.
Fresh, vibrant and made for summer.
DAY THREE
Roasted Stuffed Sweet Potatoes with Gem Avo Hummus
This was probably one of the dishes that best captured how I like to cook.
Roasted sweet potatoes became the base for a creamy Gem Avocado hummus, finished with pomegranate rubies and toasted walnuts.
Sweet. Creamy. Nutty. Tart. Crunchy.
Every ingredient brought something different to the plate, and visually it was exactly the kind of dish I loved creating — colourful, generous and almost too pretty to eat.
Almost.
DAY FOUR
Avocado & Pistachio Ice Cream
Then I decided avocado needed dessert.
Using just five ingredients, I created a vegan-friendly avocado and pistachio ice cream made with coconut milk, maple syrup and lemon juice.
It was incredibly creamy without needing dairy, with the avocado creating the silky texture and pistachio adding richness and nuttiness.
This recipe was probably the biggest departure from what people expected to see from an avocado campaign — which is precisely why I loved it.
It showed me that some of my favourite ideas come from asking one simple question:
“What if we tried it?”
DAY FIVE
Toasted Chicken & Avo Burrito
For the final recipe, I wanted something comforting.
A toasted chicken and avocado burrito brought the campaign full circle — uncomplicated, satisfying food packed with flavour and texture.
Crispy on the outside, warm and generous inside, with creamy Gem Avocado pulling everything together.
The kind of meal I would happily make long after the campaign was over.
THE CAMPAIGN THAT CHANGED THINGS
At the time, I was simply excited that a brand like Woolworths had trusted me with their product.
I don’t think I fully understood what that first campaign would mean for Tayla Made Food.
It gave me an opportunity to push myself creatively, to think about food through the lens of a brand while still protecting my own identity, and to prove that branded content didn’t have to feel like advertising.
It could still feel personal.
It could still be beautiful.
It could still be something people genuinely wanted to save, make and eat.
Most importantly, the campaign gave Tayla Made Food momentum.
It helped introduce my work to a wider audience, strengthened my confidence as a food creator and marked the beginning of something I had never really planned for — turning my love of creating beautiful food into work that brands wanted to be part of.
Five little avocados ended up opening a very big door.
And for that reason, this campaign will always be a special one.
